WLKW-TV

Our AV program is a very successful and popular one. Seven children from the fifth grade are selected by their 5th grade teachers to participate in this 9 week Live Television experience. This fabulous experience requires them to be a responsible, self motivated, and creative person eager to tackle a job that is far from the norm. They have to be willing to learn how to be a news anchor, operate the studio cameras, character generator, audio mixer, teleprompter, develop stage manager skills, and function as a video tape person. By the end of the nine weeks they have successfully mastered not only these seven positions, but have proven to themselves that they can be a successful, confident individual able to conquer a big challenge.

The equipment is very technical so acquiring the ability to think ahead is a big accomplishment for the students. They also acquire the skills to deal with the second by second critical thinking process that is crucial in a fast pace environment such as this. By being on time the students understand the importance of being a responsible person . Reporting to the studio at 7:30 each morning to produce and rehearse a live show takes team work. This is critical to having a successful show that they can be proud of. The students also come to realize that being an anchor person takes a lot of memorizing lines and that is not easy. They all can tell you that it is fun but it is also a very challenging task. What they thought in the beginning was impossible is now an accomplishment they will never forget.

The show is a fifteen minute jam packed program. There are five different segments within the fifteen minutes show. The Anchor Desk is really a hot spot at the head of the show. The students have to really get down to business to give their audience the right stuff.

Good Morning and you are watching the WLKW morning show...I'm..

The opening greeting sets the tone of the whole show. This is followed by the pledge, in which all the grade level classes participate. Two class representatives are in the studio to lead the pledge. The Anthem, which is on Video Tape, is rolled in at the precise moment by the Director.

Its time for the weather....

Our weather talent takes the forecast very seriously. Using the internet they get the latest five day forecast. It tells the whole school what kind of weather they can expect while they are at school and on the way home. All of us know that the weather in Central Florida can change rapidly from one day to the next, so it's important that we get accurate, up to date forecast to our students.

The Principals' Corner

Our wonderful Principal and Assistant Principal use this time to announce important messages of the day and to recite the motivational 4-Way-Test. You never know what special guest(s) just might drop by.

WLKW...You're on the Air...

What's your name and your Teacher's name? That's right, its time for the "Trivia Question". This is when our Principal or Assistant Principal give thestudents a chance to call in with the answer. If they get the right answer they win a prize.
