Media Center

The Media Center operates on an open/flexible schedule. Students may visit the Media Center from 9:00am - 2:45pm. Kindergarten students are allowed to check out one book, first and second grade students may check out two books, third through fifth grade students may check out two books, or one book and one magazine. The check out period for materials is 14 days.

The Parent Resource Library is located in the Media Center and parents are welcome to check out materials.

Book Fair News

Thank you to all of our Lake Whitney families for making our book fair a success! And a big thank you goes out to all of the volunteers that made the book fair happen. We could not have done it without you.

Our next book fair will be the week of April 14th.

Accelerated Reader

The 2nd through 5th grade students continue to read AR designated books and take quizzes for the books read. All students are doing a wonderful job.

Students are working hard to attain point goals and receive prizes for earning these set goals. Students may receive these prizes on designated days of the week.

Students are also working on attaining personal reading goals. Students’ conference with their teachers about the books they enjoy reading and together set a reading goal. A new goal is set every nine weeks. Once a student reaches their personal reading goal they will be recognized with a special ribbon.

Parent Resources

Did you know that there is a special section just for parents in our Media Center? We have books on homework help, social development, as well as “manipulatives” to help with math and reading. So, please come in and check it out!

Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books

We have all of the Sunshine State books for grades 3-5 in our library. A list is also available. Students are able to take AR quizzes on all of these books.

Students are encouraged to read at least 3 titles so they may vote for their favorite in the spring. If students read 10 titles they are eligible to come to the Sunshine State celebration breakfast in May. Students reading all 15 will receive a gift certificate to the BOGO book fair in May.

  • Nov. 28 – The Sunshine morning book club will meet at 8:00 a.m. to discuss the book Drita, My Homegirl by Jenny Lombard.
  • Dec.4 – Birthday book club for Nov. and Dec. birthdays. Students must sign up to participate.
